To take advantage of the iPhone Geo-marketing

With the global version of Apple's iPhone 3 G device has become the most sought-after after smart mobile phone ever. Apple has always felt that personal digital assistants or PDAS would be a practical tool for both business and personal use and power. 1993 Marketed Apple Newton but it was not the runaway hit Apple had hoped that it would be. But it seems as if Apple's time finally with the iPhone.

Apart from the iPhone's usability and integration of a PDA, iPod and cell phone all rolled into one, it has some very interesting features that could change local advertising. The IPhone has built-in in the two types of tracking of placement. With the help of a cell tower triangulation and other GPS or Global Positioning System. And even if none of these techniques are new and have yet to have been built into many mobile phones and smart phones, there is another ingredient that has been lacking. Mapping!

The function mapping is used in the iPhone uses GPS or triangulation with cellular towers to plot your location on Google maps. These mobile maps can be used for directions, of course, but the really exciting part is the ability to be used for location based advertising. For example, a person could find hardware stores closest to them, or more interesting site may trigger an ad from a local company. For example, a 2 for 1 part of glasses in the opticians.

So how can a company take advantage of this. Well first of all, it has not happened yet. Location-aware ads are in the early stages of development but there is a feature that you can take advantage of today. This is simply with Google local search capability.

If you've ever done a search on Google for a local company as you may have noticed that at the top of the results page, a small map that contains little alphabetical balloons and to the left a list of links to companies that are located on this map. This is Google local search feature, and every company should take advantage of this.

By visiting the Google local business centre (www.google.com/local/add/), you can add folders on business site Google. All you need is a Google account, and if you use Gmail, you already have one, if not signing-up is easy. Once you have signed up, you just need to fill your company address, and information and local telephone number. Next, you must activate your registration. This can be done in one of three ways. You can verify your registration by phone or SMS (two fastest) or by post. After you have verified your listing should appear in the next few weeks.

But this does not necessarily mean that your company will be in results for local listings. You need to optimize your site correctly for better rankings, but is a first step to promote your business locally to both homes, but above all mobile users.
